Getting the Dyson V8 Vacuum

· 2 min read · 335 Words · -Views -Comments

I bought a Puppyoo D531 five years ago. For something that cost around 1,000 CNY, it’s served me well, and the battery life is still acceptable. The powered floor brush, however, keeps breaking.

So this time I decided to switch to Dyson.

To keep costs under control, I went with the entry-level V8. Newer models like the V12 are only about 1,000 CNY more, but I wanted to stick to my budget—good enough is good enough. I grabbed the V8 from JD for 1989 CNY. After two weeks of use, here’s a quick rundown of the pros and cons.

Pros

  1. Top-notch aesthetics

Once unboxed, the vacuum looks fantastic. It’s mostly plastic, but still stylish, and it’s not heavy in the hand.

  2. Great user experience

    • Scan a QR code with WeChat on first use to register, watch tutorials, and manage warranty via the mini program. Learning how to use each attachment is quick.
    • My old Puppyoo required removing the battery to charge; the Dyson just drops onto the docking station.
    • Filters and heads are easy to detach and clean. Use a coin or flathead screwdriver to open the main head and a brush to clean it.
  3. Useful attachments

I barely used the Puppyoo accessories, but the Dyson attachments are genuinely effective. Swapping them is smoother, so I use them more often.

  4. Solid suction

Most importantly, the suction power is strong and the noise level is reasonable.

Cons

  1. You have to hold the power trigger the entire time, which also makes accidental presses more likely.
  2. Emptying the dust bin isn’t very clean—debris tends to stick.
  3. There’s no official no-drill charging stand.

Most of these drawbacks are reportedly addressed in newer models like the V12, so I’ll look at those when it’s time to upgrade again.

Final Thoughts

  1. For around 2,000 CNY, the Dyson V8 delivers exactly the experience I was hoping for—it looks cool and works well.
  2. The pain points I had with the Puppyoo are all resolved with the Dyson.
