Getting the Mac mini M4

I recently picked up a Mac mini M4. After using it for a few weeks, I’m really happy with it, so I’m jotting down my impressions here.

Why I Bought It

My only non-work computer was a 2019 MacBook Pro with 32 GB of RAM, but it’s sluggish and runs hot. To make tinkering more enjoyable, I decided to get a Mac mini.

Purchase

There aren’t many options for buying 3C products in China, so I went straight to JD for the national subsidy. Final price: 6000 CNY (originally 7499 CNY). The configuration is 24 GB of memory and a 512 GB SSD. I didn’t go higher because of budget constraints.

Accessories

I haven’t bought any new accessories yet—just using what I already have.

  1. Two Dell U-series monitors
  2. Filco 87 mechanical keyboard with red switches
  3. Logitech M720 mouse
  4. Microphone – XFAN D1 on-camera mic

Initial Impressions

  1. The M4 is genuinely fast and runs cool.
  2. The small footprint is fantastic—it looks neat on the desk.
  3. Even though I bought the base configuration, it’s more than enough for light development.

Final Thoughts

All in all, getting an M4 for 6,000 CNY feels like an excellent value.
