While reviewing my annual app subscription costs, I realized that Claude Pro is one of my largest expenses, costing $20 (~145 CNY) per month. Annually, that’s over 1,700 CNY. To save on costs, I decided to switch my subscription to the Nigeria region, which brings the price down to about 88 CNY per month—a nearly 40% saving. Here’s how you can do it too.
Why Choose the Nigeria (NGN) Region?
- I already use low-price regions for services like YouTube Premium and GPT Plus (often via Turkey). However, Claude’s Turkish pricing is nearly identical to US pricing, offering no real advantage. Nigeria, on the other hand, is significantly cheaper.
- If you aren’t concerned about the cost or if your company covers the expense, there’s no need for this; stick with your current region.
Prerequisites
- Nigerian Apple ID: I created a new account for this. If you have trouble creating a Nigerian account directly, you can create one in another region (like China or the US) and then change the region to Nigeria in the account settings.
- Payment Method: If you have a locally issued Nigerian card, that’s ideal. If not, don’t worry—you can buy Nigerian (NGN) iTunes Gift Cards from third-party marketplaces like Xianyu or SeaGM. I recently purchased 15,000 NGN worth of credit for 88 CNY.
Subscription Steps
- Open the App Store on your iPhone and log in with your Nigerian Apple ID.
- Tap your profile icon, select “Redeem Gift Card or Code,” and enter the code you purchased to fund your account balance.
- Open the Claude app, log in to your account, and go to the subscription settings.
- Choose the monthly plan and proceed with the App Store payment.
- If you only want to try it for one month, remember to Cancel Subscription in your Apple ID settings immediately after so you aren’t automatically charged again later.

Final Thoughts
- Feature Parity: A Claude Pro subscription purchased in a low-price region is identical in functionality to one purchased in the US. There are no restrictions on models or usage quotas.
- Preparation: It’s always handy to have Apple IDs in regions like Nigeria or Turkey ready for future use; they are invaluable for digital subscriptions.
- Third-Party Marketplaces: Platforms like Xianyu can be incredibly helpful for overcoming regional payment hurdles like local card requirements.
