Polymarket Referral Code, Registration, and Deposit Guide 2026

Recently, there have been frequent posts in the community about Polymarket betting. I was curious about what this platform is and how it works. After understanding it, I think that instead of spending the same amount of money on “IQ tax” lottery tickets, it’s better to buy some predictions on Polymarket - at least you can learn something. So I tried it out and found there are some pitfalls. Here’s a record of the process of opening an account and using it.

Preconditions

Network Accessing Polymarket/binance requires a proxy.
Metamask Wallet - Not Required but Recommended You need a Metamask wallet with USDC/USDT or other stablecoins. USDC is more recommended because Polymarket uses USDC for transactions.
Binance Account - Not Required but Recommended A Binance account allows you to transfer USDC and Polygon to Metamask wallet.

Note: If you don’t have Metamask or Binance accounts, you can buy USDC directly on Polymarket with a credit card (MasterCard/Visa), but the fees are higher. My own solution: Buy USDC on Binance → Transfer to Metamask → Connect Metamask to Polymarket.

Register Polymarket Account

You can register a Polymarket account directly. I chose to register by connecting with Metamask.

Note: The site supports Chinese. If you’re not comfortable with English, you can switch to Chinese.

Deposit Funds

After logging in, click “Deposit” and select a method. I chose Metamask wallet transfer.

Notes

Your Metamask wallet needs to have USDC, and also a small amount of MATIC for gas fees. If you don’t have MATIC, you can buy some Polygon network MATIC tokens from Binance and transfer them to your Metamask wallet. Without gas, transactions will fail, affecting exchanges and deposits to Polymarket.
Deposits to Polymarket have fees. It’s recommended to deposit larger amounts less frequently. Avoid very small amounts like $5, as the fee percentage will be very high.

Betting

Since it’s my first time playing, I tried a bet and found that the transaction itself has no fees. After trading, you can buy/sell predictions or wait for settlement when it expires.
If you’re not familiar, it’s recommended to bet $1 each time. The returns will be small, but the risk and loss will be much smaller.

Withdraw Funds

Withdrawing is also very convenient - you can withdraw directly to your Metamask wallet. I haven’t actually withdrawn yet; I’ll try it when I get a chance.

App and Referral Code

Polymarket has a US-region iOS app and supports referral codes plus newcomer rewards:

Referral code source: You can usually find your invite link in the Polymarket account page or in community channels such as Twitter and Telegram.
New user reward: If a new user registers through an invite link and completes the first deposit, both sides may receive reward USDC.
For users in China: The iOS app requires a non-China Apple ID. A US Apple ID works best.

Q: Can mainland China users access Polymarket?

Ledger /'ledʒər/ is a hardware wallet brand. I recently needed to verify the signing flow for a new blockchain, so I tested it with a Ledger Nano X device.

This post records the process and the main technical points.

What It Is

A Ledger device stores private keys securely through physical isolation and a secure element chip.

What It Does

Private key storage without exposing the key to the computer or phone
Transaction signing with the signing action completed on the device itself

Supporting a Custom Blockchain

If you want a custom chain to use Ledger for secure key storage and signing, there are two main parts:

Build a Ledger Device App that runs on the hardware device and knows how to sign transactions for your chain.
Build a plugin or integration layer that connects MetaMask or another wallet to that device app. If your stack uses libraries such as web3.js, you may also need to extend those libraries to support signing through the Ledger device app.

HID means human interface device, and APDU means application protocol data unit.

Ledger Device App Requirements

The device app is typically written in C or Rust because device resources are limited.

Install the official VS Code extension for development and debugging.
Building the device app requires Docker because Ledger provides a containerized toolchain.
For simulator-based testing, install Speculos.

The extension provides a solid development, build, and debug workflow, which helps a lot when iterating on a device app.

Submission and Release

What you submit is not a binary package. You submit the app source repository plus the required deliverables. Ledger then forks your app repository and manages deployment in their own release flow.

Typical process:

Contact the Ledger team and submit the project form: https://developers.ledger.com/docs/device-app/submission-process/submission-form
Make sure the code meets Ledger’s security and cryptography requirements.
Prepare deliverables:
- The app source repository
- docs/apdu.md describing APDU commands and status words
- User documentation
- Device compatibility information for Nano S Plus, Nano X, Stax, and Flex
- Legal entity information and contact details
Submit the official device app or plugin form.
Pass the security audit before Ledger publishes the app.

This review process is heavy and can take weeks or even months.

How End Users Use It

The user installs Ledger software and sets up the device.
The user installs the target app onto the Ledger device.
- If the app has not been officially published yet, you usually sideload it through the official VS Code tools.

Other Notes

Why are there so many models, and why are they expensive?

A hardware wallet is more than just a security chip.
Different models trade off security level, user experience, storage capacity, and use case, so the pricing differs naturally.

About `navigator.hid`

navigator.hid (WebHID) connects to physical USB HID devices. Speculos is only a simulator that exposes TCP sockets and an HTTP API. It is not a real HID device, so the browser cannot discover it through WebHID scanning.

Open Chief Group Securities Account, Supports Mainland China Identification

I mainly use Futu and IB currently, but for safety reasons, I’m opening a Chief Group Securities account here. Chief Group currently supports direct account opening with domestic Mainland China identification, which is quite convenient.

Note: Chief Group supports Hong Kong stock IPO subscription

Preconditions

As mentioned above, the requirements are very broad, so it’s easy to pass. The materials I prepared are as follows, but please refer to the actual required documents for account opening.

Original ID card, the application will require taking photos.
Mainland China bank card
Hong Kong bank card
Tax certificate, install and download the “Personal Income Tax” App on your mobile phone to generate a tax certificate.
Mobile App, iPhone users need an overseas Apple ID. The App Logo is as follows, don’t mistake it.

Registration and Account Opening

Scan the above QR code with your mobile phone or directly visit https://www.chiefgroup.com.hk/hk/open?rl=ECR&PromoCode=ZF3339 to open an account.
You can choose to open an account with a mobile phone number or email address.
Fill in real information as needed, there’s no difficulty. It’s best to fill in the referral code ZF3339 to get more rewards.
Wait for 1-2 days for approval. You will receive an SMS/email notification once approved.

Account Opening Notes

If there’s an issue with the review materials, I found that there will be no notification via email/mobile phone. Therefore, after submitting, it’s recommended to log in daily to check to avoid problems with the review materials. I had my ID card rejected because I used a scanned copy; after updating, it was approved immediately.

Deposits and Withdrawals

You can directly bind a Hong Kong bank card in the App for quick deposits with no fees and instant arrival, but a minimum of 500 HKD is required.

Account Opening Benefits

There are rewards for opening an account, but compared to uSmart/Futu, they are very stingy, but better than nothing.

Dear Customer:
Your coupon rewards have been credited to your account, which includes 1 redemption registration card worth 400 and 4 IPO subscription coupons worth 200 in total. Please log in to the Chief Securities App or Chief Connect App immediately to view and use them.

I think Chief Group’s App is very poorly designed, and the entrance to find benefits is not obvious. The specific path is as follows:

Account Activation

Currently, the quick deposit requires a minimum of 500 HKD, so it’s recommended to deposit at least 500 HKD to keep the account active.

Final Thoughts

The window period is uncertain. Especially for users who don’t have a Hong Kong/US stocks account yet, it’s recommended to open one as soon as possible because it supports Hong Kong stock IPO subscription and has a low account opening threshold.

Opening an Interactive Brokers (IBKR) Account

I previously opened accounts with uSMART (SG/HK) and Futu. While I primarily use Futu MooMoo, uSMART serves as my backup, where I keep $50 to maintain the account. Recently, I’ve seen many recommendations for IBKR (Interactive Brokers) due to its low fees. I decided to open an IBKR account while it’s still accessible for mainland users—having multiple disaster recovery options is always a good idea.

Advantages of IBKR

No CRS: Currently, IBKR US does not report under the Common Reporting Standard (CRS).
Identity Support: It still supports account opening using mainland Chinese identification.
Low Commissions: The commission rates are extremely low, making it ideal for long-term investors.

Disadvantages of IBKR

Cannot participate in Hong Kong IPO subscriptions

Account Opening Process

Visit the IBKR Official Website. I recommend selecting Chinese as the language to ensure you accurately understand technical terms.
Click the “Open Account” button and fill in your personal information, including name, address, and contact details.
- When selecting China as your country, you might see a prompt stating: You will need to provide documentation to prove you live or work outside of mainland China for a long period. You can ignore this and proceed to the next step.
- Ensure your address is accurate and matches your ID card or passport.
- Tax ID: Your Tax Identification Number is simply your Chinese ID number.
- Tax Document: You can provide a record from the Chinese Individual Income Tax (IIT) app. Choose the last 3 months to keep the file size small; IBKR usually only allows uploading a single file.
- Signature: Note that the signature format is often “First Name Last Name,” which is the reverse of Chinese convention. Don’t worry about this.
Once submitted, wait for review, which typically takes 1-3 business days.
- If approved, you will receive an email like the one below:
- Your account number will start with the letter “U”.
Log in and deposit funds. Since I have a Hong Kong bank card, I recommend depositing HKD via eDDA, which is nearly instantaneous and fee-free.
- Be careful to fill in the correct account details during the transfer.

Within 1 year, each deposit earns IBKR stock proportionally, up to a total cap of $1,000 USD. Don’t worry if your first deposit is small — you can continue depositing to earn more rewards. The specific rule is: for every $300 deposited, you receive $1 worth of IBKR stock (equivalent to 0.33% cashback).
Deposit $10,000 USD within 30 days of account opening and maintain that balance for 1 year to qualify for higher rewards (IBKR stock).

Platforms

PC: I recommend using the web portal directly for trading; it’s feature-rich and convenient.
Mobile: Download “IBKR Mobile”. iOS users will need to log in to a non-mainland Apple ID to find it in the App Store.

Deposit Workflow

Here is my typical process:

Use “Cross-border Payment” (跨境支付通) to send HKD to my Hong Kong bank card.
Use eDDA within the IBKR app to deposit HKD from the HK card.
If I want to buy US stocks, I simply convert the HKD to USD within the IBKR platform.

Maintaining Account Activity

Based on community experience, keeping at least 100 HKD is recommended. Personally, since I plan to use it long-term, I’ve put in $10,000 USD for now and will add more periodically.
You can also set up a recurring investment (DCA) strategy for a fund to keep the account active.

Money Market Funds

IBKR accounts with less than $10,000 USD don’t earn automatic interest. It’s recommended to buy SGOV/BOXX to generate returns on idle cash.

Using IBKR + Futu MooMoo Together

As mentioned above, IBKR has its pros and cons — for example, the trading interface is quite basic. In practice, I use IBKR combined with Futu MooMoo:

Final Thoughts

Some users on social media (like Xiaohongshu or X) claim you need an overseas address (like Payoneer). However, I used my mainland address, and it was approved without issue. The key is providing authentic and verifiable information. Many brokerages are tightening their policies for mainland users, so I suggest opening an account sooner rather than later. Even if you don’t use it immediately, keep a small balance to maintain it. It’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
During registration, I recall receiving a rejection email first, but I can’t find it now—maybe I misread it, or they retracted it. Shortly after, I received the approval email. If you get a rejection, wait a bit and see.

Opening a uSMART Account: The Last Brokerage Still Supporting Mainland Identity

I only have a Futu HK account. I tried opening Moomoo and Tiger but failed. Many brokerages now require proof of overseas employment, and uSMART is the last one I know of that still supports account opening with a mainland identity. So I decided to open it.

Note: You can open an account, but to actually use it you still need a Hong Kong bank card, otherwise you cannot deposit or withdraw funds.

uSMART SG or uSMART HK?

I opened both. The advantage of SG is US IPO participation and spot trading. For HK, if it is linked to a Hong Kong card you can deposit quickly, and you can also participate in HK IPOs. So I suggest opening both.

Prerequisites

Apple users need a non-mainland Apple ID (Hong Kong, Turkey, etc.) so the app can be downloaded normally.
Android users can download the APK from the official website: https://www.usmart.hk/zh-cn/download

Registration

+86 phone numbers are supported.

Account Opening Tips

Make sure the information is accurate. If it does not match, the review will fail and you must resubmit materials.
The company name should be the full legal name. You can verify it on your payslip or in Qichacha.
Sign neatly. Scribbles or connected handwriting may be rejected.
For review time, in my tests it was under one business day. After approval you will receive an email.

uSMART HK Account

Account Keep-Alive - Existing Customers

If you are opening an account just to avoid future tightening, you only need to keep a small amount of money so it is not judged as a dormant account.

“Existing Customer” definition: the account must keep at least 50 USD / equivalent currency.

uSMART SG vs uSMART HK

uSMART SG allows US IPO participation without a threshold.
uSMART HK allows US IPO participation, but you must be a professional investor, which requires proof of 8 million HKD in assets.

Final Thoughts

Personally, I think you do not have to trade, but you cannot be without it. Having a uSMART account keeps some investment flexibility before policies tighten further.

Trading U.S. Stocks Through Futu

I had previously set up a Hong Kong bank card and Futu account but never used them. Recently, I tried it out with a learning mindset. Here I’ll document the process.

Futu Account + Hong Kong Bank Card Setup

I had already set these up due to company-related reasons.

Hong Kong bank card - I went with CITIC Hong Kong
- After activating the Hong Kong card, you actually have 3 currency accounts: HKD/RMB/USD
Futu account opening
- Both U.S. and Hong Kong stock accounts activated

Depositing Funds

Since this was my first time, I did some exploring.

Depositing for Hong Kong Stocks

Hong Kong stocks are settled in HKD, so you can directly deposit from your Hong Kong card’s HKD account. I activated eDDA Quick Deposit for this. Personally, I find it very fast - just a matter of seconds - and there are no handling fees.

Depositing for U.S. Stocks

Here you can transfer from your Hong Kong card’s USD account to your Futu U.S. securities account, but I’m currently still depositing to my Hong Kong stock account and then exchanging currencies.

Currently, currency exchange seems to be slower, taking at least a few minutes, but it’s acceptable.

Depositing for Japanese Stocks

Futu now supports Japanese stock trading. App > Market > Select any stock > Click Trade, and you’ll be prompted to open an account. Follow the prompts to open an account.

After successfully opening an account, you’ll have an additional comprehensive account in your account list, and you can directly deposit funds. Similar to USD, you can directly use currency exchange.

Withdrawals

Withdrawals are also very simple - just withdraw funds directly to the corresponding Hong Kong card account.

Currently, there are no handling fees, but funds arrive only on working days. After initiating a request, the funds enter a frozen state until the withdrawal is successful.

Can’t See Japanese Stock Category in Watchlist

The watchlist categorizes stocks you’re following, so you need to select any Japanese stock to see the Japanese stock classification. The same applies to other markets.

W-8BEN Form

After opening a U.S. stock account, you need to update your information periodically, so pay attention to emails and app messages. For example, I received the following message requiring an update through the app. Note that you must present the original ID document.

Your W-8BEN form signed with Futu Securities (Hong Kong) will expire at the end of this year. The W-8BEN form is used to confirm your non-U.S. tax status and needs to be reconfirmed every three years.

Additional Information

CNH

CNH is offshore RMB, while CNY is onshore RMB. The “H” refers to Hong Kong, which was the first offshore RMB market, so CNH became the abbreviation for offshore RMB. Of course, now offshore is not limited to Hong Kong but includes other countries as well.

Stock Connect

Stock Connect refers to Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect and Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect collectively, serving as a bridge connecting mainland and Hong Kong stock markets.

Conclusion

Compared to A-shares, U.S. and Hong Kong stocks have both greater risks and returns, but they offer a good learning opportunity. Let’s encourage each other.

Apply for a CNCBI Hong Kong Card

I hadn’t had a HK/US card before. Recently my company organized a group application, so I registered. The procedures are complex; jotting them down so I don’t forget.

Card application process

Register/log in to the Futu app → My profile to see your NiuNiu number.
Apply for a CNCBI stored value card, transfer a small amount and make some transactions so there is activity within the last 3 months for witness verification.
Fill in the account opening application and save as PDF.
HK/Macau travel permit or passport — print a photocopy (either one is fine).
Use the CNCBI app to print the latest 3 months of statements.
ID card copy — keep the original size, do not scale.
Witnessed account opening — provide the following per the lawyer’s requirements:
- Account opening application
- ID card copy/original
- HK/Macau travel permit copy/original
- CNCB bank statement copy
- HKD 500 witness fee + HKD 30 postage
Email: CNCBI (International) — Additional info for remote account opening.
Email: CNCBI (International) — Application approved.
HK courier — PIN letter.
Wait for a CNCBI International verification call (HK number).
- If you miss it, call back (faster) and tell the IVR: HK card activation — 4008425558 (CNCBI).
- Fill in online forms after 2 business days.

HK courier: receive physical card in 3–4 weeks.
Activate by transfer: deposit > HKD 10,000 (recommend HKD 10,500) to avoid account closure risk.

Notes

Photocopy requirements:
- Color or black-and-white are both fine
- Do not scale; keep the same size as the original
- Single-sided copies
Do not use a collective household address for ID/address in the application.

Remitting to the HK account

To fund your HK account from mainland, you need FX purchase + overseas remittance, which incurs fees.

I recommend the CMB app — better experience.
In the app, search for FX purchase and follow the prompts.
After purchasing FX, search for overseas remittance and proceed. Mind the remittance fee; selecting “recipient pays” is about 150 CNY.
After approval, confirm receipt on the HK account portal.

Withdrawals to RMB

ATM withdrawal

Enable overseas ATM withdrawal.
Withdraw directly; each transaction fee is 15 RMB. Use CNCBI ATMs to avoid extra fees. Single withdrawal limit: 5,000 RMB.

Remit to a mainland account

Similar to remitting to the HK card, select remittance transfer on the website. There is a fee.
After the remittance arrives, accept it in your mainland bank app.

FX purchase/settlement quotas

Separate quotas, both at USD 50,000. You can view remaining quota during operations.

HK account information

After receiving the card, note the following for future use:

Account name

If it is Latin characters, it should be uppercase pinyin with spaces.
Routing Number
SWIFT Code
Branch address. Sometimes multiple branches share the same address; that is normal, but branch names differ.
Bank code: CNCBI is 18.
Branch code: depends on the branch. For example, mine is the Des Voeux Road Central branch, which corresponds to 694. You can check here: https://bankcode-hk.shortfryer.com/bank/018/694
CNCBI accounts have HKD/CNY/USD sub‑accounts. For transfers/withdrawals, use the 12‑digit account number for the specific currency, not the card number.

Avoid account closure due to inactivity

The following is summarized from Xueqiu.

Log in regularly (at least 1–2 times per month).
